Message that is cut from left to right, or even removing the rear seal at the rear of the hood to the top of the firewall, would be helpful because the vertical firewall area is where the hot air piles up and is looking for escape, but generally finds it's way out through the transmission tunnel and also under the car.

One thing is it seems like the air from the engine-compartment moves along the transmission tunnel, passing around the transmission and back to the differential whereby both of those components have radiated heat removed from them, and so it seems some air from the engine-compartment is useful for cooling those components.

Also, it seems like it would be good for the hot air at the top of the engine-compartment to be released for the benefit of the intake air moving around in the intake system so as to make the air in the intake system cooler.

Another consideration would seem to be the removal of the radiated hot air from the area around the block despite it's cooling effect coming mainly from circulation of oil and coolant.

So basically it seems a good idea to get the hot air out of the engine-compartment (duh).
But my main question is exactly where on the hood would be the best placement for a vent?? Way back at the rear as described, or the front, the middle, the sides of the hood?? Or is there an even better way/placement of vents elsewhere?

Finally, is venting the hood a bad idea due to, for example, sitting at a traffic light during a downpour and having the water cause a contamination somehow to the otherwise sealed engine compartment? Or perhaps allowing some other form of contamination to the otherwise sealed engine compartment? Or even access for vandalism?

I haven't researched this enough to make an informed opinion, but I would imagine that you might have or have enough information to answer this. Please?
